The Rotorua Daily Post is taking a look at the stories that happened in 2017. The following are some of the big local news events from September.
- Rotorua's Jessica Back, 8, had her hair cut off to raise money for schoolmate Cody Love, 9, who has Systemic Juvenile IdiopathicArthritis. (September 4)
- Jacindamania reached Rotorua as supporters young and old turned out to see the new Labour leader at the city's Central Mall. (September 8)
- The city's depleted housing stock was set to get a boost with the announcement of a 360 section subdivision in Rotorua's eastside. (September 11)
- The Care Village, a new state-of -the-art dementia village in Ngongotaha announced its doors would be open next week. (September 12)
- Rotorua residents were welcoming an election promise from National of a four-lane Te Ngae Rd within three years if reelected. (September 18)
- Three years after the project began, the Rotorua BMX Club was set to begin the building phase of its world-class track on the corner of State Highway 5 and the Waipa Mill Rd. (September 21)
- Visitors, including locals, would soon have to pay to walk around Hamurana Springs, with the iwi who own the attraction, Ngati Rangiwehi, saying the fee would help maintain the pristine area. (September 22)

- Tamati Coffey became Waiariki 's new MP and Todd McClay won his fourth term representing Rotorua at the general election. (September 25)
- Volunteers were devastated after the Linton Park Centre made the "excruciating" decision to close its bike shed after eight thefts in two weeks. (September 29)
