What Now gunge family wins trip

A Rotorua family went on a jandal hunt, got covered in gunge and won a trip yesterday.

Susan and Murray Robinson and their children Jaedyn, 15, Elijah, 12, and Aryssa, 6, were the feature family on yesterday's episode of children's television show What Now, broadcast live from Rotorua Museum.

Presenter Johnson Raela hosted the show in the museum and Government Gardens and the Robinson family was part of a "What Now's Live In Your Living Room" experience.

"When we were first approached to take part I said no because I didn't want them to actually come to our house," Mrs Robinson said.

"But when they told us it would be at the museum we were more than happy to take part."

Mrs Robinson said the family got to take part in different challenges and as a a result won a family trip to White Island.

"It was such an awesome day. Full on, but awesome."

Elijah said the family often watched the popular show on Sunday mornings.

"It was awesome to take part," he said.

"My favourite part was getting gunged and seeing the look on my parents' faces."

Rotorua District Council business marketing manager Renee Nathan said having the show in Rotorua provided a fantastic opportunity to profile the city.

"Government Gardens is an iconic area of Rotorua, while New Zealand's most photographed building, the Rotorua Museum, provides a perfect backdrop.

"We're very pleased that Rotorua Bowling Club and Rotorua Croquet Club are also supporting the event by allowing games and activities to be played on their greens."

Mrs Robinson said, "We just had so much fun.

"It was just about being together and having fun and it was great to be able to take part in activities which everyone in the family could enjoy."
