Rotorua Lakes High School music students had the chance to jam with a seasoned New Zealand musician through an ongoing Ministry of Education programme.
The D4 guitarist Jimmy Christmas visited the local high school for two days, helping students with their songwriting and music compositions.
Christmas was invited to sharehis real-world expertise through the Musicians Mentoring in Schools Programme which supports students with achievement in NCEA music.
Christmas said working with the students was always an "inspiring and rewarding experience".
"It's music for music sake at this age and the songs they work on are pure and fresh which is really inspiring to see."
The musician has one-on-one sessions with the students to help them write songs, arrange music and guide them through the projects they are developing.
"Through years of being in the music industry, I've learnt how to overcome obstacles and will be able to pass that knowledge on to these students."
Christmas has been a part of the mentorship programme for about eight years and has been coming to Rotorua Lakes High School for five years.
