The Bay man accused of attempting to kill two police officers and also allegedly shot at four others is heading to trial.

Rhys Richard Ngahiwi Warren, 27, of Coastlands, who appeared in Tauranga High Court today by audio-visual link has declined to recognised the jurisdiction of the court.

Warren faced two counts of attempted murder and five counts of using a firearm against a law enforcement officer.

The charges stemmed from an alleged 22-hour armed stand-off at Onepu near Kawerau on March 9 this year during which four police officers were shot.

Justice Brewer entered not guilty to pleas to all the charges, and remanded Warren to next appear in the High Court at Rotorua on June 27 for an electronic bail hearing.

Justice Brewer also confirmed a three-week jury trial would commence in the Hamilton High Court on March 6, 2017.

Interim name suppression remains in place prohibiting publication of the names of the five police officers at the centre of the allegations.

The attempted murder charges have a maximum penalty of 14 years' prison.
