Have a go at one one of New Zealand's fastest growing cycling sports in this weekend's Nduro X race.

Cyclocross combines mountain biking and road racing, and is a riding event fun for all ages and abilities, said event manager Tim Farmer.

"Anyone can have a go - anyone with a mountain bike or a road bike."

The 1.5km course around the Sala St Reserve will challenge competitors with obstacles, including chicanes, wooden structures and gravel.

Riders will have 45 minutes to do as many laps as they can.

There will be two races for under 18s and adults followed by a prizegiving, but Mr Farmer said it was all about having fun.

"There are different levels - some will ride for fun, some competitively."

For those not tempted by the challenge, spectators will have good views of the course.
