A 17-year-old has been airlifted from a trail ride event in the Eastern Bay of Plenty after breaking his leg in a fall.

The Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was sent to Taneatua just after 2pm yesterday when the man, who was helping to set up the event, fell off his bike riding down a steep hill going over the handlebars in the process.

He was stabilised by paramedic medics before being flown to Tauranga Hospital for treatment.
