Taupo one of NZ's 'sexiest' spots

Taupo has been revealed as one of the "sexiest" centres in the country.

A study of 20,500 New Zealanders commissioned by dating site EliteSingles, looked at anonymous user data to see how Kiwi singles rate themselves on the 'sexy' scale.

The results revealed that Aucklanders are the group most likely to label themselves sexy, with Christchurch and then Tauranga rounding out the top three.

Taupo just makes the cut at number 10 on the list.

The top 10 sexiest areas of NZ are:
1. Auckland
2. Christchurch
3. Tauranga
4. Wellington
5. Hamilton
6. Napier
7. New Plymouth
8. Dunedin
9. Kerikeri
10. Taupo

Local host of The Hits 9am-3pm radio show Paul Hickey said: "I guess it shows what we've always known, that Aucklanders think pretty highly of themselves. I suppose it's a self confidence thing though and that can be more evident in bigger cities.

"As a happily married man, it is not like I'm looking! But there have always been some pretty sexy looking people around town, and I am surprised though that they don't rate themselves a little higher.

"Perhaps the famous local pyjama wearing supermarket goers - who must be single - bring our average rating right down?"

The study also showed that a number of NZ's sexiest spots are in the North Island. In fact, eight out of the ten top placings went to North Island areas, with just two South Island areas - Christchurch and Dunedin - making the cut.
