Making a bird feeder was just one of the fun highlights of Children's Day for the McCashin family.
Brendon McCashin, wife Shanelle and their three daughters Jasmine, 5, Ella, 3, and Isabel, 2, went along to the Children's and Family Fun Day held in the Redwoods yesterday
A raft ofactivities was on offer, including arts and crafts, go-kart racing, martial arts and gymnastics demonstrations, face painting, paintball, bivvy building and mountainbiking.
"We've been coming every year," Mr McCashin said. "The kids really enjoy it."
The highlight - apart from spending time together - was making a bird feeder which would be hung in a tree at home.
"It's just awesome," he said of the Children's Day celebration. "You get to do some craft activities or some other fun with the kids. "
Event organiser Julianne Wilkinson said about 2000 people took part. "The sunshine turned on for us and right from 10am there were people here. All the activity-holders were flat out all day."
A highlight this year was having Lakes District Health Board there with information about healthy eating, she said.
"They were really busy with lots of fun games around eating healthy and brushing teeth."
For the third year running, the police team won the emergency services go-kart race while the GT children's mountainbike event was won by 10-year-old Olivia Bolton.
