The Rotorua Salvation Army has helped spread some Christmas cheer this year by giving out more than 150 hampers to needy families.
The Christmas hampers were handed out at the Salvation Army church yesterday.
Rotorua woman Meria Raroa was one of the lucky people to receive one.
She was given tinned food, two
chickens, chips, dips, and more. She said she was stoked to receive the hamper, which would help her family out a lot this Christmas.
Rotorua Salvation Army community manager Graeme Stark said there were more than 150 hampers to give away, and 130 were given out yesterday. Most included food, toys and other gifts.
Mr Stark said the generosity of the community in donating money and goods for the hampers had been "unreal".
He said it was wonderful to see so many people donating in such hard times.
"There are a lot of families who are struggling."
Mr Stark said it was heartening to see a lot of Rotorua businesses and organisations had also donated to the cause.
