Former Whakatane High School head boy Markus Poppe has been appointed as the mentor for this year's head girl Samantha Boyle.
Both are recipients of the Russell McVeagh School Leaver's Scholarship - Markus received his in 2007 and Samantha this year.
Markus has completed his studies and is now working at Russell McVeagh's Auckland office.
From 600 applicants nationwide, 180 people were interviewed, with 20 university law scholarships and 10 school leavers' scholarships allocated.
At a scholarship presentation in Auckland on Monday, Samantha was also awarded the Russell McVeagh Martin Dawson Maori Law Scholarship.
Martin Dawson was a key influence in Maori Law with a career spanning 30 years. Some of the fruits of his work before the courts and Waitangi Tribunal are that Maori is now an official language and the Treaty of Waitangi has become vitally important in our legislation.
