Western Heights High School has joined forces with Rotorua District Council's Keep Rotorua Beautiful, painting 44-gallon drums to be used as bins around Kuirau Park.

Fifty of the school's art students have just completed painting the drums. They took four months.

Keep Rotorua Beautiful co-ordinator Christine Findon said it took a lot of manpower to paint all 20 bins and she was thrilled with the students' work.

She said eight of the bins would be put around Kuirau Park every Saturday for the local market and the rest would be used when other special events were held in Rotorua.

While Western Heights High School provided the manpower for the job, the council provided the paint for them to paint what they wished on the bins.

Keep an eye out for these colourful bins, which will no doubt crop up around Rotorua.
