Hawaiian reggae bands Kolohe Kai and Rebel Souljahz will be performing in Rotorua as part of a four-concert New Zealand tour in August.
The tour, which will feature the two groups and Kiwi reggae bands Sons of Zion and NRG Rising, will be held between August 4 and August 7 in
Christchurch, Porirua, Rotorua and Auckland. The Rotorua concert will be held at the Energy Events Centre on August 6.
Kolohe Kai, which consists of Roman De Peralta (lead vocalist, acoustic guitar), Noah (ukulele), Ryan (sax, backing vocals), Jordan (electric guitar, backing vocals), Warren (bass), Luke (drums) and Ko (keyboards), have dominated radio airwaves with songs such as Cool Down, Ehu Girl, Lover Girl and other tracks inspired by the sun, surf and lifestyle in Hawaii.
The promoter said it could be the last New Zealand tour for Kolohe Kai for some time.
Concert promoter Ara Adams-Tamatea said Kolohe Kai performed at Tauranga's Mount Action Centre in March in front of a sold-out crowd of 3000 people from all around the Bay of Plenty. For anyone who missed out on the Tauranga gig, they would get the chance to attend the Rotorua gig but Mr Adams-Tamatea encouraged people to book their tickets fast.
He said that, since the Rotorua gig was the only Central North Island venue on the tour, he expected the concert to reach the events centre capacity of 5000 people.
Mr Adams-Tamatea said Kolohe Kai would be travelling to Australia after New Zealand but would be taking a break after the tour. He wanted to give Kiwi fans the chance to see them in concert one more time.
"We don't know how long that break will be," Mr Adams-Tamatea said.
Mr Adams-Tamatea said given the Rotorua concert would be held on a Saturday, he expected people to hire buses to attend the concert, just as they did for the Tauranga gig earlier this year.
Tickets for the concert would go on sale from June 22. The price has yet to be announced.
Sons of Zion lead vocalist, former Rotorua man Rio Panapa, is excited to be bringing the tour to his hometown and he encouraged people to support the concert to ensure future concerts were held in the city. He said he was looking forward to reuniting with the Kolohe Kai members.

Tickets for the Rotorua gig will cost $67.50. Tickets will be available from the venue, Ticketmaster outlets and www.ticketmaster.co.nz.
