Rotorua's Sergeant Steve Sutton and Senior Constable Viv Sutton were able to celebrate reaching a milestone together.
The husband and wife duo were two of 11 Rotorua police officers who were recognised during a medal and certificate presentation at the Rotorua District Council on Tuesday.
Mr and Mrs Sutton were both recognisedfor 14 years' long service good conduct with the New Zealand Police. Mrs Sutton has spent the past 14 years in Rotorua, while Mr Sutton was in South Auckland for two years before moving to Rotorua.
The duo said their 14 years on the force had flown by.
"It is crazy to think we have been doing the same job for 14 years but time flies," Mrs Sutton said.
"I enjoy the variety and the camaraderie of the job."
Mr Sutton said being a police officer was a challenging but rewarding job.
He said one of his highlights included setting up Rotorua's Cactus programme. Cactus, which stands for combined adolescent challenge training unit and support, is an eight-week intensive physical training course.
It is aimed at challenging behaviours through a disciplined and regimented training programme based on a military bootcamp.
Mr Sutton said the programme was currently in the middle of its second intake and that more were being planned.
"It has been a big challenge but it has been so rewarding."
The awards and certificates at Tuesday's presentation were given to the recipients by New Zealand Police Commissioner Peter Marshall.
