Police have now identified and spoken to a potential witness to a collision between a car and a motorcycle at the intersection of Giltrap and Biak Sts in Rotorua on Saturday.

Earlier today police said they wanted to contact a possible witness who posted on Rotorua Buy Sell Swap page on Saturday.

This afternoon they said they had contacted that witness.

"Thanks to a few of our Facebook followers we have now identified and spoken to the potential witness we were seeking in relation to Saturday's suspected hit-and-run crash in Rotorua.

"We have received a number of enquiries asking after the welfare of the motorcycle rider who was injured in this crash. He is still in hospital but is on the road to recovery."

Earlier:

Police investigating a collision between a car and a motorcycle at the intersection of Giltrap and Biak Sts in Rotorua on Saturday say information they've had suggests they are looking for a grey Toyota Celica, 1990 to 1993 model.

Police said it was highly likely that there would be damage to the left hand side of the vehicle, possibly towards the rear.

Earlier today police said they wanted to contact a possible witness who posted on Rotorua Buy Sell Swap page on Saturday.

Police said: "We understand that a possible witness to a suspected hit-and-run crash at the intersection of Gilltrap Street and Biak Street, Rotorua, on Saturday morning posted a comment on a Buy, Sell Swap page suggesting they had seen the crash, but the comment has since been removed.

"We would urge the person who posted the comment to contact us and let us know what they witnessed on the morning of the crash."

Police said if anyone else had any information about this comment or the crash to contact them on 07 348 0099.

Earlier story:

Rotorua police are investigating a collision between a car and a motorcycle at the intersection of Giltrap and Biak Sts about 10.25am today.

The car, described as a grey coloured hatchback, was last seen driving away from the intersection towards Waterford St.

The motorcycle rider was left with moderate injuries and was transported to Rotorua Hospital.

Witnesses to the crash are asked to contact the Rotorua Police on (07) 348 0099.

Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on (0800) 555111.
