Police are using social media more and more to help solve crimes.
Police investigating a suspected hit-and-run crash in Rotorua have tracked down a witness through social media, but still need help to find a grey Toyota Celica thought to be involved.
Bay of Plenty police posted a Facebook message yesterday looking for a witness to the crash, between a car and
a motorcycle at the intersection of Giltrap and Biak streets on Saturday morning. The car drove off, while the motorcyclist suffered moderate injuries and remained in a stable condition in Rotorua Hospital, police said.
Within hours of the Facebook post, police identified the witness they were looking for.
"Thanks to a few of our Facebook followers we have now identified and spoken to the potential witness we were seeking in relation to Saturday's suspected hit-and-run crash in Rotorua," police said.
The car involved was believed to be a dark grey Toyota Celica, 1990 to 1993 model, which was likely to have damage to its left-hand side. The vehicle was last seen driving in the direction of Waterford St.
