Three new pools have opened at Rotorua's Polynesian Spa.

The new shallow pools in the adult section of the complex are part of a $3.5 million redevelopment which began in May last year and is expected to be completed in August.

One of the three pools
is under cover and bathers in all three can get a view of Lake Rotorua.

The additions bring the number of public pools to 14.

Managing director Martin Lobb said part of the redevelopment included building 13 new private pools to replace the 17 existing ones, now 30 years old which needed upgrading.

It had been expected that work on the private pools would be finished by the end of last year but wet weather had put contractors well behind, Mr Lobb said.

It was hoped six of the 13 new private pools would be open by May. Two new changing rooms will also be built as well as another entrance specifically for tour groups.
