Seventies pop group Paper Lace hopes Rotorua residents will be reminded of the old days when they perform in the city.

Paper Lace, whose memorable compositions such as Billy Don't Be a Hero, Hitchin' A Ride and The Black Eyed Boys led them to 70s superstardom and selling millions
of copies around the world, will be performing in Rotorua tomorrow night.

The band will perform alongside 70s pop group Eve Graham and The New Seekers as part of the concert called Smash Hits 70's: The Greatest Hits of the New Seekers and Paper Lace at Rotorua's Civic Theatre.

The show has been on tour since April 28 and will continue until May 12, visiting 12 venues in Hamilton, Auckland, Tauranga, Rotorua, Hastings, New Plymouth, Palmerston North, Wellington, Greymouth, Christchurch, Dunedin and Invercargill.

Paper Lace singer/drummer Phil Wright was looking forward to performing in Rotorua and returning to New Zealand.

"We are really looking forward to it. We haven't been to New Zealand since '74."

Paper Lace classic The Night Chicago Died reached number one in the American charts, achieving platinum sales and winning the title of largest selling single worldwide in 1974. "Hopefully people that come see us are reminded of the old days.

"You can expect the Paper Lace hits, the songs that everyone will instantly know."

Paper Lace, comprising original members Wright and bassist Cliff Fish, have teamed up with Phil Hendricks and Paul Robinson to recreate the authentic live sound of Paper Lace for the New Zealand tour.

Wright is encouraging Rotorua residents to attend the concert and is promising a "fabulous night".

"Our part in the show will be great."

Tickets are available from Ticketmaster.
