Nairn a strong community man

Rotorua's Bob Nairn was always willing to lend a hand to someone in need.

Mr Nairn died last Thursday aged 93 after spending most his life in Rotorua working among the community and partnering a local accountancy firm, Nairn Fisher.

He celebrated almost 70 years of marriage with his late wife Barbara, who died last year.

The couple were both active members in the community including long-standing involvement with the Presbyterian Church.

For 25 years, Mr Nairn taught Bible class at St John's and he and his wife ran numerous church camps at Ohope.

Mr Nairn's grand-daughter Chelsea Marriner said he was a special man who did a lot for others. "If anyone needed advice or a hand he was always willing to help them out."

She said he was also a great family man, raising three daughters and spending plenty of time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

"When mum was teaching at Ngongotaha Primary he would come and pick me up and we would spend a lot of time together."

She said he was also an avid golfer, spending plenty of his time at Springfield Golf Club.

Among his other sporting talents, Mr Nairn also loved waterski-ing and helped teach hundreds of local youngsters.

His funeral will be held at St John's Presbyterian Church on Ranolf St today at 1pm.
