Job listings are rising in Rotorua, with employment in trades and office support leading the way.

Local recruitment companies say businesses are hiring and they need more applicants to fill vacancies.

The Trade Me employment survey for April to June shows the whole country enjoyed high growth.

Listings in Rotorua rose 2 per cent to 483, compared with the same period last year, with office support roles and jobs in trade driving most of the growth, the survey found.

According to the most recent Statistics NZ household labour force survey, the employment rate - the percentage of people employed in the working-age population - in the Bay of Plenty, including Rotorua, was 61.7 per cent in the March quarter, up from 57 per cent a year earlier.

Consultant at Personnel Resources in Rotorua Lauren Monro said the company was struggling to fill the number of local roles advertised, especially in administration and accounting.

"We want more people to come through. We've definitely got the jobs there," she said.

"I think everyone's feeling a lot more confident out there at the moment, and it's getting more and more [like that] every couple of months. Our growth has gone up and up, so for our growth to go up it means companies are hiring and aren't afraid [to hire]."

While some Rotorua companies had recently restructured, others were taking on additional staff, she said.

Talent ID Recruitment director Kellie Hamlett said the job market in the Bay of Plenty was showing positive signs.

"In the first half of this year, we have seen a steady rise in both full and part-time permanent roles being recruited for, across a broad range of sectors.

"The numbers of roles we have recruited have increased from this time last year and the temporary job market is also showing some buoyancy, which is indicative of a strong recruitment market."

Brew Craft Beer Pub co-owner Paul Croucher said there was a positive feeling in the Rotorua hospitality sector, which was contributing to businesses hiring more staff.

The popular bar and boutique brewery employs 25 staff across Rotorua and Tauranga.

The completion of Eat Streat had helped business, he said.
