A weekend long hunting competition saw an array of prized animals presented, and the coming together of those with a passion for hunting and fishing.

The Sir Howard Morrison Super 4 Club Competition first graced the hunting calendar in 2009.

It was started by Howie Morrison jnr as tribute to his father Sir Howard, and their shared passion for hunting and fishing.

Fourteen teams and clubs spent the weekend chasing wild boar, red stag, rainbow trout and sea species to claim the top prize of a trophy and $5000 cash.

The teams were from Rotorua, Reporoa, Otorohanga, Tihoi, Kaituna, Hawke's Bay, Te Teko, Turangi and Tokoroa.

The overall winner was determined by combining scores for all four species.

There were prizes for the Average Weight Boar, Average Weight Red Stag, Best Condition Rainbow Trout and Heaviest Sea Fish.

Second place overall received $2000, third $1000 and fourth $500 with top prizes valued at thousands of dollars for each category from first to eighth.

First overall was Turangi Boars Nest with 387 points, second was Hawke's Bay Hunting Club with 386 points, third was Team Legit from Tokoroa with 385 points and fourth was Team Mean Maori Mean from Te Teko with 382 points.

Organising committee member Shay Dender said the competition had been "fantastic" and the weather had played its part.

Mr Dender said hunters had all done well in the bush and fisherman had done well on the lakes.

He said there had also been a great turn out of community and whanau who had come to support the weigh-in yesterday afternoon.

Mr Dender said other prizes included a generator, lots of hunting clothing, rifles and fishing equipment.

The major raffle prize was a Polaris Sportsman 570.

Bryce Curle from Turangi Boars Nest said they had got all their "bits and pieces" during the competition and had fun getting them.

He said they had to get trout, eel, pig and deer.

Hohepa Hemara from Otorohanga said he had been with the club for about two months and enjoyed the club members all getting together.

He said although everything was a bit scarce they managed to get everything they needed, though they could not use their stag.

This year the competition was filmed to air on Choice TV later in the year on Hunting Aotearoa.

A film crew accompanied the Waikite Pig Hunters Club into the bush and on the lake, and filmed them in the quest to win the big prizes.
