A man is dead following a high-speed lake water-skiing accident.
The man, who was water-skiing in Taupo, died in hospital after receiving neck and head injuries.
Westpac Waikato air ambulance pilot Loren Haisley said the rescue helicopter was called to Taupo Hospital on Saturday to transport a patient who had received injuries to his head and neck after falling while water-skiing.
He said an Emergency Department doctor from Waikato Hospital as well as a St John advanced paramedic were flown to Taupo to treat the man.
Mr Haisley said the man had been water-skiing at high speed.
"He was reported to be achieving speeds of up to 162km/h when he fell."
