It was a good competition
Karen Bedingfield, Madison Blues coachRotorua's Madison Blues have marched their way to a gold medal and a place at the national championships.
The city's senior marching team won gold at the Bay of Plenty Marching Championships held at Rotorua's Puketawhero Park at the weekend and will now compete at the 2010 New Zealand National Marching Championships in March.
Coach Karen Bedingfield told The Daily Post the senior Rotorua team won gold in both the technical and display sections on Saturday.
Five teams from throughout the region were entered in each section of the competition.
"It was a good competition," she said.
Hamilton's Railfreight Cavaliers won the under-12 technical and display in the junior section.
While there were only five teams competing for gold, it had been a successful competition, Mrs Bedingfield said.
The Rotorua senior team won't have far to go to compete at the national championships - they are going to be held at the Rotorua Energy Events Centre from March 19 to 21.
And there's good news for Topp Twins fans who were disappointed at missing the musical comedy duo's tour during October and November last year as the talented pair are included in the weekend entertainment for the national marching championship.
Teams from throughout the country will take part in a gala march in Rotorua on March 19, with each team dancing to their own routine and drill movements on show.
Jools and Lynda Topp will then be hosting the evening's entertainment at the Rotorua Energy Events Centre.
Tickets will be available from Ticketmaster.
