The Sudima Hotel Lake Rotorua Summer Raceday is set to be a fun family sporting event on Monday.
The annual festival will be at the Arawa Park Rotorua racecourse and is part of the nationwide Interislander Summer Festival series, happening in 34 venues over the next couple of months.
The sporting event
has been held annually for about five years and will involve a day of horse races, live music and free children's entertainment including tug of war, Springfresh splash n' dash, Undercover Cody slip-slop-slap and wrap n' dash, the Interislander three-headed t-shirt race and a Sunsmart colouring in competition.
There will also be free children's entertainment such as bouncy castles, pony rides and magic shows.
The Vistamax Super Screen will display the racing action and kids' events in between.
Marketing and sponsorship manager for TRAC, Don Paterson, said the races were aimed at providing a fun day for families and friends to get together and enjoy holiday racing in the sun.
He said it was Rotorua's largest family friendly sporting event, with 8000 attending last year and even more expected this year.
"It reminds me of the old gala -type days. You can pack a picnic or enjoy the great food available from the cafes too," he said.
"It's about providing a great value experience for both visitors and locals to enjoy."
Mr Paterson described the day as warm, friendly and relaxed, interspersed with thrilling thoroughbred racing, live music and children having lots of fun.
"It's the best value for money."
There are nine races scheduled throughout the day and BYO alcohol limits apply - one bottle of wine or one dozen stubbies of beer per person. No kegs, spirits, RTDs or cask wine is permitted.
For more information contact Don Paterson, phone (07) 348 2024 or (021) 245 3963.
