Making its way down the country the Interislander Summer Festival is stopping in at Rotorua's Arawa Park racecourse tomorrow, offering grassroots racing and all day entertainment.

The festival, now in its sixth year in Rotorua, features a full day of activities whether you're an avid fan of horse racing, or it's your first time on the course.

"A day at the races is one of our great Kiwi summer traditions," said Racing Rotorua spokesman Damian Radesic.

Mr Radesic is in his second year organising the meeting.

"This is the best race day for Rotorua, the place is just buzzing," he said.

"The festival offers a wonderful chance to experience the fun and excitement of country races.

"It's all about people getting together and having fun."

With racing getting underway at 12.30pm there will be eight races to watch over the course of the day.

Entry is free under 18 years, and for kids under 12 there is a full day of entertainment in the Kids Go Racing area, with face painting, bouncy castles, games and prizes to be won.

Entry for adults is $10.

"A BYO policy has been put in place for the day, which includes six stubbies of beer or one bottle of wine per person," he said.

"We wanted to make it a day for all ages, young to old, just a great party atmosphere."

Mr Radesic encouraged people to "gather up your friends and family, whip out your picnic blanket and your jandals, and prepare to relax while soaking up the summer sun".
