Ex-Lakes High student cycles London to Cape Town

Rotorua parents Liz and Steve English are filled with a mixture of pride and anxiety over their son's grand overseas adventure.

Former Rotorua Lakes High School student Phillip English set out from London last Saturday to pedal 15,000km to Cape Town, South Africa, hoping to raise $25,000 for his favourite organisation - the Acumen Fund - an organisation dedicated to eliminating poverty.

A concerned Mrs English said her 23-year-old son was going through some really dangerous places and would be on his own.

"I'd be quite happy if he wasn't so adventurous," she said.

Mr English said his son saw life differently.

The couple will be at the finish, hopefully in a year's time, and Mr English said he would like to pedal the last few days with his son.
