Martial arts fans are in for a treat.

If you have seen Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Kung Fu Panda or any Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee movie then you might want to get down to the Sir Howard Morrison Performing Arts Centre tonight for the world's best in kung fu.

The Shaolin Zen Boxing Cultural Performance Group is in New Zealand for the first time. Tonight it will show its audience what is possible with kung fu and likely blow your mind, says Rotorua Chinese Association member Roger Wong.

The group has been brought to Rotorua courtesy of the New Zealand Supreme Group of companies and the Rotorua Chinese Association.

"It's a performance not to be missed," said Mr Wong.

"They've been touring around the world and this is their first time in the Southern Hemisphere. I've seen some video to show what they will be performing and it's a very exciting show."

He said the youngest performer of the 21 on stage was 7 and he ran across a mountain made of the other kung fu masters.

Mr Wong said he hoped the performance would inspire others to take up kung fu or at least form a new appreciation for the martial art.

"I'm looking forward to it myself," he said.

The group is from the Henan province and the Shaolin Temple, which is renowned for the training of martial arts students in China.
