Rotorua motorists are being urged to drive to the conditions as heavy rain causes slippery roads across the city.
Forecasted downpours arrived in the Rotorua area late yesterday morning. Around the same time, emergency services were called to two minor crashes near the city.
The first was about 10.45am, nearthe intersection of State Highway 5 south of Rotorua, where a motorbike and a car collided.
No one was injured but one lane was closed to through traffic while emergency services staff cleared the scene.
Half an hour later, two cars collided at the Ngongotaha roundabout, north of Rotorua.
Sergeant Andrew Lynch said speed and not driving to the conditions had been factors in both crashes.
"With the recent spell of rain the roads can be slippery in places due to a buildup of fluids on the roads, extra care is required and we should be avoiding shiny sections of road. Slow down, be patient, and arrive safely."
The forecast for today is fine but for the rest of the week there will be showers with heavy rain returning for the weekend.
