A truck and car have crashed on Pyes Pa Rd. Photo / Supplied

One person has died after a truck and a car crashed on Pyes Pa Rd.

State Highway 36 was closed between the Pyes Pa Rd/Takitimu Rd roundabout and Te Matai Rd after the crash, shortly before 9am.

A St John spokeswoman said a helicopter and an ambulance treated two people but police have since confirmed one person has died.

Another was taken to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition.
