A Canadian man living in Rotorua accused of importing cocaine and ecstasy has had his visitor's visa declined.
Steven Michael Dyde, 44, unemployed, appeared in the Rotorua District Court yesterday charged with one count of importing cocaine, two of importing ecstasy and two charges of possession of cocaine for supply.
The offencesare alleged to have been committed at Rotorua on May 29 and June 7 this year. Dyde has not entered pleas to any of the charges.
Through his lawyer Bill Lawson, Dyde applied for bail but that was refused by Judge Phillip Cooper. During the bail application Judge Cooper said Dyde's visitor's visa had been declined but he suppressed the reasons why.
Judge Cooper also suppressed other parts of the bail application.
The judge remanded Dyde in custody to appear in the Rotorua District Court on June 29.
Dyde's partner, Fiona Mary Cameron, 44, of Rotorua appeared in the same court on Wednesday charged with possession of cannabis. She has not entered a plea and has been remanded to appear again on June 20.
