"We had to look up different subjects to write about in our song. We sung about math, literacy, PE, iPads, kapa haka and languages," the group said.
For their efforts the pupils received two iPads from NZEI, one for the school's adventure academy and one for the te puna reo academy.
Moana Te Kaawa, 12, said they had recently shown off their award-winning video at a school assembly, with a good response.
"Everyone was laughing and I think everyone liked it. I was proud," Moana said.
She said the best part of making the video was doing actions and dancing in front of the camera.
Kaitao's audio visual teacher Cameron Fowler said the judges told him the lyrics were very catchy, featuring lines such as "learning is fun and it's cool to do, I love learning and you should too".
He said it took the group about 4 hours to write the song and about five hours to film and edit.
Mr Fowler said it was great to see the pupils excelling with their project, with some students identified as below the national standard in other subjects, like literacy and writing.
The competition included more than 2000 entries across 10 categories, with the winners all receiving iPads as prizes.
