Nominations flow in
Taupo people have got behind their volunteers with 76 entries in the TrustPower Taupo District Community Awards and seven nominations for the Classic Hits Volunteer of the Year Award. Entries closed last Friday. The awards will be presented at a function on September 3.

Award for hotel
Rotorua's Hamurana Lodge Boutique Hotel has achieved a Qualmark Enviro Gold Award. Hotel director Fred Novella said the award recognised initiatives made in the past two years including composting waste food and introducing bees to the site.
Schools at kapa haka
Students from five Rotorua high schools are in Whangarei taking part in this year's national secondary schools kapa haka competition. The Rotorua schools competing include regional winners Raukura (Rotorua Boys' High and Rotorua Girls' High), Rotorua Lakes High, Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Ruamata and Western Heights High. Breastfeeding bid
Kiwi mothers will attempt to break the record of 1564 women simultaneously breastfeeding at this year's Big Latch On during World Breastfeeding Week. The Rotorua attempt will be held on Friday, August 3. One will be held at the Rotorua Library, the other at the Rotorua Parents Centre. In Kawerau, mothers and babies can take part at Tuwharetoa Health and in Opotiki at Whakatohea Iwi Social Services and Health Services in Church St.
