An alleged drink driver has crashed their car into Lake Rotorua, police have confirmed.

A car was removed from Lake Rotorua overnight after a crash.

A police spokeswoman said this morning that about 10pm yesterday police were contacted about the incident.

Police were told the car crashed near the Rotorua Energy Events Centre on Queens Drive and the front half of the car was submerged in the lake.

The police spokeswoman said the car was brought back on to land and the driver was processed for excess breath alcohol.
