Students wanting to "experience the capital city" are fundraising at a car boot sale this weekend.
Lake Rerewhakaaitu School is hosting the sale in Rotorua to raise money for their senior students to go to Wellington.
Principal Patricia McGee said every three years, Year 6, 7 and 8 Lake Rerewhakaaitu students went on a field trip to Wellington where they got to "experience the capital city".
This year's students will spend a week in Wellington visiting Parliament, Te Papa, Capital E studios, Wellington Zoo, Westpac stadium and other places.
A total of 23 students are planning to go in May and, so far, they have been fundraising with cake stalls, sausage sizzles, car washing, pine cone selling and gardening.
"It's quite good, the children have been really getting involved," Mrs McGee said.
Students have already raised $3000 for their trip, but they need $3000 more to cover the costs.
Mrs McGee hopes about 30 cars will come to this weekend's car boot sale and raise between $600 and $1000. "I hope that lots of people will flood in. It could be quite a festive day."
People can come along and sell toys, train sets, sports gear, home produce, artworks, radiator caps, clothing, furniture, tools, new and used items, books and bags. There will also be cake stalls, raffles, sausage sizzles and more.
The school is hoping everyone will support them by coming to sell, or coming to find a bargain.
The car boot sale is on Saturday from 10am to 2pm at Arawa Park Raceway car park, off Fenton St. It costs $15 for each car boot. To register your car contact Lake Rerewhakaaitu principal Patricia McGee on (07) 366 6814 or patriciam@lakerere.school.nz or come and register on the day at 9.30am.
