Mrs Lowe said she was contacted by someone from the national guild who said there had been a lot of people in Rotorua who had registered interest in joining a club.
"She asked me if I wanted to be involved and it went from there."
The club now has 23 members but more are welcome.
The club's secretary, Raewyn Sadgrove, said the club was a place for people to get together and share their enthusiasm for cake decorating.
"It is hands on," she said.
"We share ideas and skills. It is a great place to meet people who have a common interest."
She said the members of the club inspired each other and were able to help each other.
"We talk about how we did things, what worked and what didn't work and what could work better."
The club often has demonstrations with people from other clubs coming in and showing how to do a particular thing.
They also go on trips to other clubs and each year they go to the New Zealand Cake Decorators Guild conference.
Mrs Lowe said anyone would be welcome to join the club.
"You don't need to have any experience," she said.
"We have some very experienced people who will show the beginners the basics and then they will be able to join in with the regular meetings."
The club has meetings on the first Tuesday of every month which are held at St Chads Hall on the corner of Devon and Fenton Sts.
