Almost 40 pilots, air traffic controllers and friends and family enjoyed a day of nostalgia at the Rotorua Airport on Saturday to commemorate the Rotorua Aero Club's 75th anniversary.
Club secretary Andrew McMenamin said those attending enjoyed a shared lunch at the club, sharing stories and anecdotes from years gone
by.
"Club president Peter Bjarnesen presented a short history of the club, likening the club's fortunes over the years to a plane's flight, then the floor was open to past members who shared memories.
"One life member, Ena Monk, who had learned to fly in the 1950s, was also present. She has flown Tiger Moths, Cubs and gliders but her favourite is the Cherokee DJI, which she bought in the early 1980s, sold, and then bought back again in 1998," he said.
