Calling all eggsperts! The Northern Advocate has some hopefully not breaking news - is this Northland's biggest chicken egg?
Henrietta, a brown shaver of Maungatapere, recently laid this whopper, which has a circumference of 18cm and a length of over 7cm. Owner Wayne Le Grice says Henrietta usually lays relatively
normal-sized eggs for a brown shaver.
"This is the first time she laid something that big. She hadn't laid for five or six days when she laid this monster." "She really dropped a bomb," he laughed.
But now Henrietta literally has a case of empty nest syndrome. Her monster egg was taken and is in the care of Mr Le Grice's grandchildren in Maunu. She has no need to worry, though - Alan and Logan Le Grice-Jones, aged 5 and 4 respectively, say they don't want to tuck into it.
"We think it has a dinosaur chicken inside," Alan said.
