Nitro Circus is on in Whangarei tomorrow.

Nitro Circus is on in Whangarei tomorrow.

The crowds expected for tomorrow's Nitro Circus show in Whangarei has prompted Whangarei District Council to make special plans to cope with the influx of traffic as well as people.

As of yesterday almost 11,000 of the 12,000 tickets available for the show at Toll Stadium had been snapped up - the highest total of any of the six venues Nitro Circus is visiting on this tour.

"The event will be full of speed, flight, flash and drama inside the stadium, but the traffic around town before and after it will be another thing entirely," events manager Dannii Vallely-Te Kani said.

"We have organised a traffic management plan including parking areas and drop-off zones to keep traffic moving smoothly around the area. No roads will be closed but we will have 'event' signs out on all the link roads - Port Rd, Porowini Ave - and a 30km/h speed limit reduction," Ms Vallely-Te Kani said.

"There will be a no-parking zone on Okara Dr, on the stadium side of the road, a limited number of patrons can park on Okara Dr, along the grass opposite the stadium. Spectators should plan ahead, work out where they are going to park (ie railway station, Cobham Oval, central city carparks) and the route they will take to walk to the stadium."

A drop-off zone will be located on Okara Dr, and the council is advising people to allow plenty of time to get to the stadium.

Ms Vallely-Te Kani said the VIP gates would open at 3.45pm, general admission gates at 5pm, and the show kicks off at 6pm.

"We are also asking people to be responsible - this is a high-adrenaline event and we expect some people will enjoy a few drinks as well. Those who are drinking need to take it easy, be sensible and organise to have a sober driver or cab available.

"We expect it is going to be a dynamic night, with 32 freestyle motocross FMX, BMX, skating, scooter and inline skating stars. These will include Kiwis Jed 'The Warrior' Mildon and three-time X Games medallist Levi Sherwood."

People collecting pre-purchased tickets on the day can pick them up from the ticket booth at toll stadium from midday tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the Northern Advocate ran a competition this week to give away 10 double passes to tomorrow's show.

The winners were Tracy Adams, Daina Carter, Terisa Turua, Sarah Brown, Cheryl Smith, Iain Whitaker, Susan Guyatt, I Johnson, Jan Hansen-Jackson and Sheryl Riceman.
