It's hungry work being a top dog and a hotdog looks like a tempting treat for this hairy competitor at the dog show at Barge Park yesterday.John Stone
There was no room for bad dogs at Whangarei's Barge park yesterday at the Whangarei Dog Training Association's championship agility show.
Only good, well-trained canines were welcome at the event, which put each dog through its paces over a gruelling course.
Altogether 116 dogs from the upper North Island took part in the agility show, which required pet pooches to leap through hoops, weave around poles and jump over fences.
The event was held in conjunction with an obedience ribbon trial that attracted about another 70 dogs.
Rebecca Roper, from the association, said some very well- trained dogs took part in the events, which were a lot of fun for dogs and owners alike.
"These dogs take a lot of training and hard work to get to this stage, but it's a lot of fun," she said.
A full list of winners was not immediately available after the weekend show but will be published in The Northern Advocate later this week.
