Whangarei's Doreen Brechett saw the Northern Advocate article on Foster Hope's pyjama drive and felt she had to help.
Foster Hope is a charity that distributes backpacks to Child, Youth and Family, or caregivers directly, to give to foster children.
Foster Hope Northland's Debbie Sutcliffe had contacted the Northern Advocate
some weeks ago to appeal for donations of pyjamas and other items for the backpacks.
The backpacks contain "personal items", such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, clothes, facecloths and cuddly toys - and, particularly in winter, pyjamas.
"I read the article in the paper and I suddenly realised this was where my dolls and toys are going to from now on," said Ms Brechett. "I feel for these children and I'd like to comfort them in any way."
