Dargaville's big burn out is a hot contender for the title of Northland's maddest, baddest and totally raddest car event.
This weekend's sixth annual Kaipara Car Show and tyre-fry promises to be as high octane fun as ever.
The competition -- has a prize pool of $10,000 cash up for grabs.
The burn out rivalry will start at 10am on Saturday and be smoking until 8pm, but it's not the only fun to be had in a paddock down Hoanga Rd, just outside Dargaville.
There's a car show as well as the men's and women's burn out comps, the hard luck award, drags and drifters, panel and paint, freestyle motocross, beer bungy and more.
Hospitality extends to free spit-fired sheep and pig for show or burn out car owners, sponsors, staff and VIPs.
Tomorrow night's arrival and first show-and-tell event is not open for friends of participants or the general public, and it's lights out by 10.30pm, the organisers say.
Saturday is the biggest day for action for competitors and spectators, and the night will stay revved up by the band Tempest Fugit..
The same promos that call the weekend of petrol-head heaven a "family" outing also warn that some of the event's adult themed activities "may offend young audiences".
The wet t-shirt competition, perhaps? The bikini competition? The antics of "free carwash girls to help wash cars as the access road may be dusty"(yeah, right).
An annual event to raise awareness and raise funds for breast cancer, the memorial Sue Ker Car Cruise to Kai Iwi Lakes, will again be a feature of the show.
That sedate outing will leave from the rally point in Dargaville Woolworth's carpark at 11am, after Sunday morning's top 20 burn out finals which start at 8am.
