Dense fog prevented the timing of all but one gallop at this morning's Hastings track session.
Surround Jazz was the only horse timed when he worked on his own over 800m on the plough.
The big grey was kept under a firm hold for the first 200m, which took 14.5s, but
was then let stride out strongly over the last 600 in 35.2.
Surround Jazz looks in good order and is expected to resume racing in a 1200m maiden at Hastings on July 21.
St Jazz and Donna Jazz, both entered for Saturday's Wellington meeting, underwent separate gallops on the plough but could not be timed.
St Jazz worked over 800m while Donna Jazz sprinted 600m. Apprentice Kelly Myers rides both horses at Trentham and is able to claim a four kilogram allowance.
Racqueteer, an impressive winner on her home track last Saturday, was one of several horses let off with just pacework this morning. She may start next in another 1400m race at the Hawke's Bay meeting on July 21.
The Guy Lowry-trained trio of Pen Pal, Dido and Fall were others restricted to pacework.
Pen Pal will be freshened up for a 1400m race at Hastings on July 21 and could then be headed south for the Grand National meeting at Riccarton where there is a premier quality 1800m race for her on the first day and the listed Christchurch Casino Winter Classic (2000m) on the last day.
Dido could also accompany Pen Pal south, providing she performs well in a 2000m progressive race at Hastings on July 21.
Fall, who finished third behind Te Horo Belle and Irish Rover in an open 1200m trial at Otaki on Tuesday, is expected to resume in a 1600m race at Hastings on July 21.
