Basketball New Zealand's player and coach development manager, Gordon McLeod, will conduct coaching clinics in Hawke's Bay next week.
The former Australian world championship player will have two clinics at Hastings Boys' High School on Wednesday and one at Dannevirke on Thursday. There is free admission to all three clinics.
McLeod's first
session in Hastings will deal with under-14 players and their coaches and the second with secondary-school age players and their coaches. The Dannevirke clinic will be for under-14 players and their coaches.
"We are very lucky to have his experience and guidance in developing players and coaches within New Zealand and look forward to his visit to our area," said successful Hawke's Bay age group coach Shane Brown.
McLeod played in the Australian NBL from 1979-89.
He played for Australia at the 1978 world championships in Manila, the 1980 Olympics in Moscow and the 1983 Commonwealth Games in Auckland.
A former head coach at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, McLeod was also head coach of the West Sydney Razorbacks in the Australian NBL for seven years.
* Undermanned and undersized, the Wellington Saints hope Australian import Ben Knight can fix their rebounding woes in the NBL. The problem is most pronounced on the offensive end, where Wellington's opponents have hauled in an average of 35 defensive rebounds per game.
Knight will suit up for Saturday night's home game against Auckland.
