Farmers' market-goers in Hastings will be in for a musical treat tomorrow, as well as edible ones. The Hastings Sinfonietta are to perform a hour-long outdoor concert at the market, as part of a special day to mark Hawke's Bay's Edible Arts Festival.
The Sinfonietta will play a varied programme at the extended market, which runs until 2.30pm tomorrow.
The music will begin at 1pm, and will including selections from Don Giavanni, as well as popular tunes such as "You Will Never Walk Alone".
Conductor Kathleen Barry said the orchestra will be armed with pegs to keep music in place and sunglasses to stop the glare.
Unless, of course, it rains - in which case the 30-strong group will be forced to cancel, she said.
The extended market will feature lots of "edible arts" treats, such as cooking demonstrations, food sculpture and a parade by Edible Fashion Award winners.
