Regan Gough

Regan Gough

Regan Gough, the most medalled junior track cyclist in the history of New Zealand cycling, was last night named as Hawke's Bay's Sportsperson of the Year.

The Hawke's Bay Sports Awards, organised by Sport Hawke's Bay with main sponsors Hawke's Bay Today and Radio Sport, was held at the Pettigrew-Green Arena in Taradale last night.

Black Caps cricketer Kyle Mills, a member of the World Cup squad, was the guest speaker while sports journalist Phil Gifford was the MC.

In addition to the Hawke's Bay Today-Radio Sport Sportsperson of the Year, Gough also scooped the Lion Foundation Junior Sportsperson of the Year Award and Konica Minolta Junior Team of the Year with his Central Hawke's Bay Cycling Club clubmate Luke Mudgway.

The pair won the award for winning gold in the Madison race at the Junior Worlds. Gough's awards last night were in recognition of his two golds, silver and bronze at last year's junior worlds in South Korea followed two silvers from the 2013 Junior Worlds.

The Hawke's Bay Magpies rugby team won the Tremains Senior Team category for winning the Ranfurly Shield and locking it away for the summer after four successful defences.

The Sileni Estates Coach of the Year Award went to Gough's coach Ivar Hopman while Hawke's Bay Rugby chief executive Mike Bishop won Sportsground.co.nz Administrator of the Year award.
