A Napier man who was last month found guilty on a charge of rape has been sentenced to 12 years in jail, including a year for trying to coerce the victim into making a false statement.
Dennis Gregory Prouse, 50, denied charges of rape, burglary, assault with a knife, assault andattempting to pervert the course of justice when the trial was held in Napier District Court in the first week of May. Found guilty by a jury, he was remanded in custody for sentencing which took place yesterday before Judge Geoff Rea.
The charges related to incidents in the woman's home in February last year, and the man's attempts to encourage her to change her version of events about a month later.
