PGG/Wrightson merger would benefit Napier

Napier would gain jobs at Porirua's expense under a planned merger of agricultural giants Pyne Gould Guinness (PGG) and Wrightson.
Napier, along with Dunedin, would become regional administration centres for PGG Wrightson should the merger of the rural servicing companies succeed.
However, Wrightson CEO Barry Brook could not say how many Hawke's Bay jobs the merger would create.
Under the plan, most of about 100 administration jobs at Wrightson's head office in Wellington would move to Dunedin and Napier and the Porirua office would close. Otago could suffer some job losses as the companies close some of their shops.
While the merger will involve a major rebranding exercise, Mr Brook said the companies would continue with the Williams and Kettle brand in the Lower North Island.
