A young, newlywed Hastings woman was killed when the horse she was riding fell and crushed her on Friday evening - the second fatal horse accident in Hawke's Bay in just over a month. Emily Christine Neill, 24, died when her horse Basil fell and landed on her, shortly before 6pmon Friday. Mrs Neill was riding on a private property near Hastings. Mrs Neill (nee Macklow) grew up in Hawke's Bay and attended Hastings Girls' High School, before studying at Eastern Institute of Technology, and National College of Design and Technology. She worked in IT for police in Wellington and locally, and took up a position as IT Systems Coordinator at Farmlands in Hastings last year. She married Dylan Neill just 11 weeks ago. Last month, Sarah Jane MacDonald, 32, of Patoka, died when she fell off a horse. The young mother of three was riding on Emerald Hill on December 6 when the accident happened. She died in hospital the following day from her injuries. Mrs Neill's funeral will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on Pakowhai Road, Hastings, at 1.30pm tomorrow.
