Napier's new-look skate park throws open the doors on Saturday December 17.
It's been named Bay Skate, and comes complete with a new logo, new layout and plenty of "exciting new features".
The park is loosely divided into three sections - a bowl area, a rink, and a ramp space (still in development) which can be used for free skating until the ramps are completed.
But it's not all brand new - the piece de resistance is the old Marineland grandstand, providing ideal viewing opportunities for spectators.
With seating for almost 600, it's hoped that the grandstand and plaza will be booked out for events, outdoor cinema screenings, gigs and so on.
"We've actually taken our first booking already," Napier City Council sport and recreation manager Glenn Lucas said.
"There will be a beach party and fireworks display held on-site as part of Te Matatini National Kapa Haka festival in February. It's a fantastic use of this multi-purpose site and a bit of a showcase of what we're able to do with this great space."
Chair of the Marine Parade Redevelopment Committee councillor Keith Price said Bay Skate will offer "world-class skating as well as a positive and inclusive culture. We see this as a place where all the different wheel sports codes can come together, whether you scoot, skate or BMX. It's a fantastic asset for Napier."
An open day on December 17 will mark the park's official launch. Beginning at 10am with a short opening ceremony, and free to the public from 11am, there will be plenty of entertainment throughout the day from local musicians and demonstrations from the Guns n Roses Roller Derby, the Bay City Rollers, Napier Sharks Inline Hockey, MGP scooters, and more.
A "free skate" session runs from 3pm - 5pm. A charge will apply for any skate hire during the open day.
"Everyone's welcome - it promises to be an action-packed event" councillor Price said.
