Peak Vision Church in Havelock North has grown from an idea to 360 members in four years, says Pastor Jack Lamborn.
Work will soon begin on its new building, on the corner of Te Mata Mangateretere and Te Mata rds.
"We [built] the church right in the village down onCooper St where we lease our building - which is just about as big a building as is available in Havelock North - but we have outgrown it by miles," he said.
Mr Lamborn said when they started the church it was initially only him and his wife, three of their children and a nephew. "That was all we knew were going to be here but the church has grown to about 360.
"It has grown fast and every week we are seeing new people committing to the church."
The United States-born pastor was a Southland dairy farmer before coming north with New Zealand wife Sari.
They put their Black Barn Rd home and rental properties up as security for the new church site, which includes the building housing the Tandem Cafe and Origin Earth. "At the moment the income from those two leases services the entire debt on the property," he said.
The new church should be complete by August next year.
