Rest assured, Hastings very own bouncing leap year baby, Charlie George Marsden Parish, will not go without. Although his dad, Dave, initially thought his birth at 4.15am yesterday morningwas fantastic, because he has to give him a party only every four years.
Officially known as a "Leaper", Charlie is now part of an exclusive group who celebrate their birthday every four years.
Mum Kylie said she was very surprised because she didn't think he'd come on time, because not everyone delivers on their due date.
"It was a quick one - with fours hours in labour from start to finish," she said from her bed in the Atarangi Maternity Ward at Hawke's Bay Hospital in Hastings.
In a coincidence first-born son, 3-year-old Ben, was born on Mother's Day, May 10, 2009.
